Greg - SS R1, '02Suzuki Series 2002 Rnd 1
Chris & I had a good days racing at Taupo yesterday for round 1 of the 2002 Suzuki Series. The day ran like clockwork thanks to Tim's organisation doing an excellent job once again. We were all finished by 3:30pm with plenty of time to pack up and attend the prize giving.
Both Chris and I came away with the impression that everyone is going faster this year as we were both doing reasonable times in our classes but ended up near the back of the field. It really goes to show how the standard has improved over the last two years.
I had no complaints with the performance of my bike and managed to get one or two laps in the 46's about 0.5 seconds off my best.
Race 1 was a lot of fun for me, there were 5 crashes of which 3 were close enough that I had to brake to avoid people. That first race saw some very aggressive passing maneuvers so unfortunately I let a lot of people past to finish 26th out of 31.
Race 2 & 3 saw me starting at the back of the grid, but was a lot more fun and less danger!
I had a nice dice with an R6 (#57) who was catching me thru the esses but couldn't quite catch me on the straight. I came away with some ideas on how to improve, so I'm looking forward to our next meeting at Taupo in June.
Next weekend should see us back down there for the last of the PMCC rounds, then to Manfeild in May.
Thanks for your support, Greg.
